Vultr is a VPS provider with high cost performance. It offers up to 14 database centers to choose from, all of which use SSD hard drives and KVM architecture. There are also many articles comparing Vultr with DigitalOcean and Linode. This article mainly shares the experience of using Vultr's Japan node.
Previously, many articles tested the Los Angeles and Japan nodes. However, recently, from personal tests, it can be seen that the route from China Telecom to Vultr's Los Angeles node has taken a detour and the packet loss is also very serious. It is estimated that this is due to China Telecom's adjustment. It is unknown whether it will return to normal in the future.
The traffic of Vultr's Japan node used to be limited to 200GB, but now it has been increased to 400GB per month. If you only need to host a website, the cheapest configuration is sufficient, which only costs $5 per month and includes 1 CPU, 768MB of memory, 15GB of storage, and 1000M shared bandwidth. The cost performance is very good.
Although the cost performance is good, what about the network situation for domestic users? Below are tracert route tracking screenshots for different ISPs and test results from the Super Ping tool.
From the test data of network tools, all three major ISPs use NTT backbone network, and the performance is good. From the ping test data, the mobile and Unicom routes are better, while the Telecom route is slightly worse. However, they can all stay stable within 200ms, which is relatively good optimization.
Regarding some questions, why is the IP displayed as the United States when opening a VPS in Vultr's Japan node? This is generally because many tools' IP databases are not updated in time. I personally recommend using ipip.net for queries, as its data is more accurate.
So far, my blog has also hosted data on Vultr's Japan node. If you have any questions or doubts, we can discuss them together.
