Disable All in One SEO Auto-Descriptions to Avoid Duplicate Meta Tags
Due to cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in older WordPress versions, I upgraded to the latest version 4.01. To ensure compatibility, I also updated all plugins to their latest versions. However, this introduced a new issue: the latest version of the All in One SEO plugin (version 2.2.3.1) has the description generation feature enabled by default, which can cause duplicate meta descriptions and negatively impact SEO.
Some themes come with automatic description and keyword generation features. Therefore, it is unnecessary to keep the keyword and description functions enabled in All in One SEO, as this can lead to duplication. I recall that older versions of All in One SEO did not automatically enable article descriptions, but this issue has appeared in the newer version.
If you are using this plugin, please first review the basic settings of the All in One SEO plugin and then disable the auto-description feature. If you have not yet started using this plugin, I recommend considering alternative plugins, as this one does have certain drawbacks.
How to Disable:
- Go to the WordPress admin dashboard.
- Click on All in One SEO.
- Navigate to General Settings.
- Scroll down to find Autogenerate Descriptions.
- Uncheck the default box.
- Don't forget to save your changes.
