Vultr Launches $2.5 VPS Plan with $10 Credit for New Users

Vultr is a high cost-performance VPS provider offering 14 data center locations, all equipped with SSD storage and KVM architecture. Recently, Linode launched a $5 plan, and Vultr has quickly followed suit with a $2.5 plan, suggesting an intense competition between the two providers.

The previous $5 plan has been upgraded to 1 CPU core, 1GB RAM, and 25GB SSD. The new $2.5 plan offers 1 CPU core, 512MB RAM, and 20GB SSD. It remains to be seen if this pricing strategy will be sustainable, as shown in the screenshot below.

About Data Center Selection

Some users have reported that the Japan data center can be unstable during certain periods, possibly due to high traffic. The Los Angeles data center is a viable alternative. The London, UK data center has higher latency but is relatively stable (personally tested). Since network conditions vary by user location, actual testing is recommended. Vultr charges by the hour, allowing you to spin up instances in multiple data centers for testing and delete them at any time.
