Aliyun Public DNS to Impose Speed Limits: Top Unlimited Alternatives
Aliyun recently announced that starting from 24:00 on September 30, 2024, its free public DNS services (such as 223.5.5.5 and 223.6.6.6) will implement intelligent traffic control measures for resolution requests. While public DNS remains committed to providing high-quality basic recursive resolution services for free users, it may temporarily limit the request concurrency for free traffic from a single recursive node and a single source IP in high-concurrency scenarios that pose risks to system stability.
The upper limit for request concurrency is not a fixed threshold; the specific speed limit value will be adjusted in real-time based on network load and the overall service quality of the public DNS to ensure stability and user experience. The free version of public DNS does not guarantee service availability.

Tencent Cloud's public DNS has already implemented speed limits. Although these limits may not significantly affect most ordinary users, they could noticeably impact the user experience for special users who frequently perform DNS queries or for specific software. To address this, xiaoz has collected and organized a list of currently available public DNS servers that do not implement speed limits for your reference.
Selection Criteria
- Domestic public DNS servers
- Friendly to all three major Chinese carriers (China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom)
- No QPS (Queries Per Second) limits
- Support BGP networks or AnyCast technology
- Foreign public DNS servers are excluded from this list
This selection involves some subjectivity. For instance, xiaoz previously encountered instances where 114 DNS was hijacked to 127.0.0.1, so it was excluded. Additionally, 360 Public DNS was excluded because testing showed it does not support BGP networks.

Conclusion
In previous tests, the author found that Tencent Cloud and Aliyun's public DNS performed excellently, supporting EDNS and AnyCast technologies to ensure stable connections even for foreign networks. However, with these two services now implementing rate limits, we must seek alternative backup DNS servers. Hopefully, the information collected by the author will assist you in finding unlimited DNS options.
