Claude: A ChatGPT Alternative with Registration and Usage Guide

Due to the difficulty of registering for ChatGPT and the platform blocking many data center IPs, the barrier to entry is increasing. If you cannot access ChatGPT directly but can use a proxy to access the internet, you can try Claude.

About Claude

Claude is an AI assistant developed by Anthropic. Its functions are similar to ChatGPT. It is currently in the testing phase and can be used for free in Slack.

Claude Limitations

• Claude plays the role of a helpful assistant. It often incorrectly reports its capabilities or claims to "update its memory," although it actually has no memory of previous conversations!
• Claude often makes mistakes in complex arithmetic and reasoning, and sometimes even in more basic tasks. If given a long list of instructions, it usually makes mistakes when trying to follow them.
• Claude still sometimes hallucinates or fabricates information and details. When asked questions, it occasionally fills in information from memory that does not exist in long documents.
• Claude has read a lot on the internet, so it knows some things about the real world, but it has not read recent content. However, Claude can read and integrate content from websites you provide links to.
• Claude's training data may be up to 2 years old.
• Similarly, Claude does not know today's date or current events.
• It cannot (but is expected to) take action in the real world—but it can suggest actions.
• It cannot (but is expected to) look things up, but it can suggest what to look up.

Registering and Using Claude

Preparation:

1. A US-based proxy node
2. A Slack account

Before starting, we need a US-based proxy node because Claude is only available in certain regions. Testing with a Japanese node by xiaoz failed, but it worked normally after switching to a US node. Note:

1. If you cannot open the Slack website, please use a proxy tool.
2. Add the Claude domain anthropic.com to your proxy list.

Register a Slack Account:

Currently, Claude can be added and used directly in Slack, so we first need to register a Slack account.

Since xiaoz already has a Google account, a Google account is used directly to register for Slack here; the detailed registration process is skipped.

Next, "Create a Workspace."

After creating the workspace, enter your name and skip the invitation.

Add Claude to Slack

Open this address from Anthropic: https://www.anthropic.com/claude-in-slack, and click "Add to Slack." Note that you may need to use a US node here, otherwise, you may encounter an error stating that the feature is not available in your region.

Continue to click Allow to authorize.

Then, you will be prompted that the addition was successful:

Using Claude in Slack

Return to Slack, and you will see "Claude" in the apps. Click on "Claude."

Click on "Claude" and directly enter your conversation content. A protocol permission popup will appear; click "Agree."

Next, simply enter your content in the input box to converse with Claude.

Conclusion

Although Claude's functionality is not as powerful as ChatGPT, it can serve as an alternative if you cannot use ChatGPT. However, please note that Claude still requires a proxy to use and cannot be accessed directly within China.
