Captura is a very simple Windows screen recording tool that supports multiple languages. It is open source and free. Interested students can give it a try.

Using Captura

Captura is in English by default, but you can switch to Chinese by opening the settings - as shown in the following figure.

Configuring ffmpeg

Captura screen recording depends on another open source tool called ffmpeg. The ffmpeg that comes with Captura seems to be unavailable in China. You can download ffmpeg by yourself and set the path in Captura.

A user has already compiled the Windows binary version of ffmpeg, and the download link is: https://github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases

After downloading, extract it to any path, and then point to the ffmpeg folder in Captura, as shown in the following figure.

Solving the problem of no sound in Captura recording

xiaoz found that there was no sound when using Captura to record videos. You can solve this problem by following the steps below. Open Windows Settings - Sound - Sound Control Panel.

Switch to the Recording tab - Enable Stereo Mix.

Then restart the Captura client, and check the "Stereo Mix" option in the audio options (you must restart the Captura client after enabling Stereo Mix to see the option).

Finally

Captura is a very minimalist screen recording software without ads or bundled software. It is free and open source, and it is relatively easy to use. However, it cannot be used out of the box, and the software author has stopped maintaining it, which is a bit regrettable.

By the way, according to the introduction on GitHub, it seems that someone has repackaged Captura and is selling it as paid software, which made the author feel disappointed and stopped maintaining it...
