Jellyfin is an open-source media player that allows centralized management of movies, music, and other media files. It now supports a Windows client, which eliminates the need for server-side decoding and significantly improves playback smoothness.

Using the Jellyfin Windows Client

When opening the Jellyfin client for the first time, you need to enter the server connection address, account, and password to log in. The interface currently supports only English.

After logging in, you can manage media files just like in the web version. When clicking to play, it calls the MPV player. In testing, playback is much smoother than the web version because it uses client-side decoding.

Summary

The Jellyfin PC client is developed based on MPV. Although the experience is not perfect, having it is better than not having it. After installing the Windows client, you no longer depend on server-side decoding, which is a great benefit for users with weak server CPUs. Jellyfin users should try it out.
