HoRain Cloud Dedicated Server Review: Stability Test and Performance Analysis

HoRain Cloud is operated by Beijing Chenfan Technology, offering services such as physical machine rental, VPS, CDN, and SSL certificates. Last year, the author purchased a dedicated server in Shiyan, Hubei, with China Telecom connectivity. Due to a busy schedule, the stability test and review were delayed. Today, the author completes this overdue review to provide a reference for potential users.

Purchasing a HoRain Dedicated Server

The dedicated server purchased by the author last year in Shiyan, Hubei, offers fully exclusive resources, generous bandwidth, and DDoS protection. Promotional activities are held occasionally. Below are some screenshots (subject to actual conditions).

Test Configuration

  • CPU: E5-2666 v3
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Hard Drive: 250GB
  • Network: Hubei Telecom

I/O Test

The wget -qO- bench.sh | bash command was used for I/O testing. The results are as follows:

 I/O Speed(3rd run) : 160 MB/s
 I/O Speed(average) : 186.0 MB/s

The I/O performance is average. Users familiar with dedicated servers know that hard drives are often allocated randomly. Good luck might result in nearly new drives, while bad luck could mean drives with longer run times. Overall, HoRain Cloud's hard drives have relatively friendly power-on hours and are not near the end of their lifespan.

Network Test

The author purchased a single-line Hubei Telecom server. An ITDOG global ping test was conducted first, with results as follows:

Although it is a single-line connection and may not match BGP performance, access from different operators across the country is completely fine.

Stability

Dedicated servers are generally less stable than VPS. The server purchased by the author last year has been running for over 300 days and has been relatively stable. Maintenance notifications are typically provided in advance.

The advantage of physical machines is exclusive resources and high performance, but the disadvantage is a higher data risk compared to cloud servers. Therefore, it is recommended to back up data regularly.

Important Notes

  • Registration requires Alipay real-name authentication.
  • Domestic servers require domain filing, and a ticket must be submitted in the backend to whitelist the IP.
  • For dedicated servers with a single hard drive, ensure regular data backups.

Conclusion

HoRain Cloud offers various types of physical machine rentals with large bandwidth and DDoS protection, offering high cost-performance. Even with a single-line server, testing shows that access from different networks across the country is problem-free. The above is the author's real test of the HoRain Shiyan, Hubei Telecom dedicated server. Different data centers and configurations may vary, subject to actual conditions.
