Hostry Review

Hostry is a web hosting company founded in 2006, with data centers located in the Netherlands, the United States, Luxembourg, and Russia. One month ago, Xiaoz purchased a new VPS in Singapore from Hostry and found it to be performing well and stable. Here is a simple review of the VPS.

Hostry Data Centers

Hostry currently has 8 data centers in the following locations: Netherlands, United States, Latvia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Singapore, Czech Republic, and Poland. After conducting some tests, Xiaoz found that the network in Singapore is relatively better. Below are the prices and configurations for the Singapore VPS. (Note: Hostry VPS in all data centers have unlimited traffic)

Network & Bandwidth

The average ping latency across the country is 138.0ms.

Based on the monitoring data from Grafana, Hostry Singapore has an upload bandwidth of up to 100Mbps.

However, the download speed is not as good. The fastest download speed measured is 2.52MB/s, which is approximately 20Mbps. It seems that Hostry may have limited the download speed. But for website hosting, the upload bandwidth is usually more important.

Routing

For China Telecom and China Unicom, the route to Singapore goes through Japan's NTT before reaching Singapore. For China Mobile, the route goes through Hong Kong before reaching Singapore. Please refer to the official testing IP provided at the bottom for individual route tracing.

For the return routes, all three major Chinese ISPs (China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile) go through Hong Kong. Below are the mping script test results.

Conclusion

Hostry Singapore is actually located in ITLDC's Singapore data center. Xiaoz initially intended to purchase directly from ITLDC's official website, but found that ITLDC does not offer low-end machines. If you are looking for a low-end machine, Hostry is a good option. For China Telecom and China Unicom, the route to Singapore goes through NTT, while China Mobile goes through Hong Kong. The return routes for all three ISPs go through Hong Kong. Hostry Singapore limits the download speed, but the upload speed has been observed to reach up to 100Mbps. Hostry does not limit traffic, making it suitable for CDN nodes or applications with large traffic.
