OVH VPS London Data Center Review: €2.99/Month Plan Analysis
Received a promotional email from OVH announcing a new €2.99 plan. After a quick look at the cost-performance ratio, I decided to purchase one for a simple review to help others.

- Memory: 2GB
- Storage: 20GB SSD
- Data Center: London, UK
- Price: €2.99/month
As of now, OVH VPS offers 6 data center locations. I purchased a North American (Canada) server half a year ago and found the network performance terrible, with excessive routing. I recommend considering European data centers for at least a direct connection.
I/O Test
Using the bench.sh script for testing, the average I/O speed was 119.0 MB/s. Compared to other SSD VPS providers, this I/O performance is concerning. It is unclear if I received a fake SSD.
Ping Test
Sichuan Telecom ping test showed an average latency of around 238ms. This latency is acceptable for a European VPS. However, latency increases during peak evening hours. Based on long-term observation, network conditions may change over time, so a consistent latency around 240ms cannot be guaranteed.

Other Notes
- Registering for an OVH account can be troublesome. You may be required to provide bank statements via email communication, which is very inefficient. Account registration alone can take several days.
- OVH orders require approval before activation, which typically takes 24 hours.
- Overall, OVH's efficiency in handling issues feels low, possibly due to the relaxed European work culture.
Conclusion
The OVH €2.99 plan offers decent cost-performance, but the disk I/O is low, and network quality from Europe to China is not excellent. It is not very suitable for hosting websites, but it is a good option if you specifically need a European IP.
