Successfully Opened a Corporate Account in Chengdu Without an Agent: A Guide for Individual Businesses

Recently, I completed the official seal, financial seal, and legal representative seal, then personally booked an appointment with a bank and successfully opened a corporate account without hiring any agents. Open a map application, search for nearby banks, and identify those displaying "Corporate Banking" services. Call them directly to explain your situation and confirm if they can open a corporate account for you.

Appointment Process

I consulted the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). After confirming they could open an account, I added the relationship manager's WeChat for further communication. Once preliminary documents were verified and approved, we proceeded with the two-step appointment:

• Step 1: Schedule staff visit for on-site photography.
• Step 2: After photography, schedule the offline account opening.

On-Site Photography

Before the staff visit, they will contact you to confirm the time. You need to prepare the following beforehand:

1. Company Signboard: Available on Taobao for a few dozen yuan.
2. Indoor Office Environment

You might wonder, "Since my individual business is registered at an online store address, where is the office?" Actually, the office address can differ from the registered address. Although my registered address was an online store, I provided my residential address for the photo appointment. Banks generally allow residential addresses, but you should confirm this in advance.

The photography took only a few minutes. Afterward, I continued communicating with the relationship manager via WeChat to schedule the offline processing time.

Offline Corporate Account Opening

Before visiting the branch, ensure you have the following:

1. Original Business License
2. Official Seal, Financial Seal, and Legal Representative Seal
3. Original ID card of the Legal Representative
4. The Legal Representative must be present in person during the scheduled time

Upon arrival, the process involves filling out forms, signing, stamping, and taking photos. The entire procedure takes about 1-2 hours and moves relatively slowly. During this time, I was asked several questions:

1. We noticed recent changes in your company information. What caused this? Answer: Changed from a physical address to an online store address.
2. Your company has been registered for several years. Why open a corporate account now? Answer: Previously focused on personal transactions with no corporate needs; now dealing with some enterprise clients requiring corporate accounts.
3. Will you conduct payments or receipts late at night? Answer: No.

Simply answer truthfully and do not falsify information. As law-abiding citizens, there is nothing to fear.

Fee Structure

Fees vary by bank. For my ICBC corporate account, the costs included handling fees, material fees, annual fees, statement printing fees, SMS notification fees, and U-Shield annual fees. After discounts, the total cost was 318 RMB. In the second year, most services (like SMS notifications and statement printing) can be cancelled, reducing the annual cost to approximately 100 RMB. This is not expensive; some banks even offer full waivers for small micro-businesses. Please consult specific banks for their current rates.

Usage Precautions

Bank staff reminded me of the following critical points after successful account opening:

1. Do not perform small transfer tests, as this will likely trigger risk control measures that are difficult to lift.
2. Initial Funding: Transfer sufficient funds from the legal representative's personal bank account to cover fees immediately after opening. Mark the transfer note as "Reserve Fund" (备用金).
3. Timing: Suggest waiting until the next month to start receiving payments or making transfers.
4. Compliance: Do not lend your account to others for transaction processing. Use it legally and compliantly.

Conclusion

In summary, individual businesses in Chengdu registered with an online store address can successfully open corporate accounts. My entire process—booking appointments, on-site photography, and visiting the branch—was done independently without agents.
