Mover is a OneDrive migration tool that allows users to quickly and conveniently transfer data from Google Drive, Dropbox, FTP, and other platforms to the OneDrive ecosystem. Acquired by Microsoft on October 21, 2019, Mover has received official endorsement from the company. Users planning to migrate data to OneDrive should consider this tool.

Registering Mover

Adding a Migration Source

Mover supports a wide range of source platforms, including Amazon S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, FTP, and more. Please refer to the screenshot below for details.

While the method for adding each source may vary, the process is straightforward. Click the "Transfer Wizard" at the top to create a new transfer, select the source you wish to migrate from, and follow the prompts to complete authorization.

Selecting a Migration Destination

Mover is primarily designed to migrate data to OneDrive, so all supported destination platforms are Microsoft products. It does not support migration to other cloud storage providers, as shown below.

Click "Authorize New Connector" and follow the prompts to add a destination source.

Starting the Migration

Once the above steps are completed, you can begin the migration. You can view migration tasks, current progress, logs, and other detailed information by clicking "Migration Manager" in the navigation bar.

User Experience

The author attempted to migrate data from FTP to OneDrive using Mover. The process encountered issues with a significant number of failed files, and Chinese characters displayed as garbled text. The transfer speed was also relatively slow. However, it is still much more efficient than manual migration, and the operation is simple. Users are encouraged to try migrating from other source platforms to evaluate success rates and speeds.

Mover vs. MultCloud

In a previous blog post, the author shared MultCloud: A Convenient Cloud Storage Management (Inter-cloud Transfer) Tool. MultCloud is another cloud storage migration tool that supports more source and destination platforms than Mover and offers a Chinese interface. While it is easy to use, it currently imposes monthly traffic limits on new registrations.

If your goal is simply to migrate to OneDrive, Mover is a good choice as it has no traffic limits. However, if you need to migrate between other cloud storage providers or set up mutual backups, MultCloud might be more suitable due to its broader functionality. Users are encouraged to try both tools to see which best fits their needs.

Conclusion

Mover supports most mainstream source platforms and allows users to easily migrate data to OneDrive with simple operations and no traffic restrictions. However, it cannot guarantee 100% complete migration and currently only supports migration to Microsoft storage products.
